A Walk Down Memory Lane or Suzy Gets KO'd By A Two Pound Kitty: Part II

August 14th-wee hours of morn August 15th. Yup, it's broken (right ankle). That's the fibula, and I might add, the fattest part. When I break something I don't mess around.

August 15th (Saturday) . My darling first cast. I miss her. She was softer and easier to walk on because she was, well, a soft cast. No, of course I wasn't supposed to walk on her, but had to many times. She was applied the night of the "incident" to get the swelling down and prepare for the hard cast (oh joy). We said our goodbyes 3 days later. I do miss her so. However, I don't miss looking at my swollen, purple toes!

August 16th (Sunday). Back to the ER. Before going I tried to get more blood out of my hair, but it was hard. My wound had started bleeding through the liquid stitches and swelled . Not good. I was also in tremendous pain. Trust me, I feel as bad as I look.

August 17th (Monday). I need a tan! They don't make a cast with plaster anymore, instead they use fiberglass. Did you know that? I didn't. I thought I was going to have to lug around 10 lbs. of plaster, but instead I'm only dealing with a 3 lb. cast and it's custom!!! Yup, molded right to every little curve I have. Painfully so. Fortunately my bone didn't have to be set, it simply had to be pushed in and held in position while the cotton and fiberglass dried. Pleasant? NO, OF COURSE NOT!!! You nuts?!
~
Monday the 24th I go back for x-rays through the cast. If everything's fine, the cast stays on 4 more weeks. It's then removed, more x-rays are taken and 1 of 3 things will happen: 1) I'll go into a walking cast, 2) The cast will go back on, or 3) Surgery. I'm hoping for the walking cast, but I haven't been a very good patient because I'm always on my feet and not using my crutches enough. Monday's x-rays are very important, so cross your fingers.
~
However beautiful this cast is, Monday it's being removed and a new one put on. This one is killing me - something's wrong.

August 18th (Tuesday). I decided to chronicle the healing process. Yes, it's true, I look like crap, but give me some credit, I removed most of the blood before taking this photo for you (and I was told not to, but I could tell doing so wouldn't impact the scar). You're welcome. For God sakes, DO NOT enlarge this photo. Trust me, this is big enough! And yes, I feel as bad as I look. And yes, OF COURSE I have wrinkles, I'm 50. :)

August 19th (Wednesday). Still unable to wash my hair or face because I can't get water on the liquid stitches or the "glob" you see will melt away. My instructions were "Try to keep it on at least a week." Most of my photos were taken in the afternoon, so the swelling isn't too bad around my eyes, but I swear to God there were mornings I'd get up and my eyes were so swollen I couldn't see my feet!

Same day. Nasty. Oh, and my lip hurts too. And my foot's killing me.

August 20th (Thrusday). The stitch glue has come off and as you can see the top portion of the cut is healing beautifully, but the bottom, not so good. I was told in the ER during the second visit that I've developed a hemotoma (that's the big bump you see). A hemotoma is a sac of blood that developes to protect the body from internal bleeding or can be the result of hemorraging. Apparently mine is there to protect me from a brain injury. It should be absorbed into my body over time, but if not, believe it or not, will have to be surgically removed. In the meantime it's managed to pull my cut apart and cause more bleeding. What?! Of course I'm laughing. *Suze looks up to the sky and yells "Hey God, if you exists, cut me some freakin' slack!"*

Friday, August 21st. Still haven't washed my hair because my ankle hurts too much and I'm exhausted, but my face is starting to look and feel much better. Did you notice the improvements? Come on, look harder!
~
Do you realize a little over a year ago I didn't have a single scar on my face? What's this now, number 4? 3 kitties, 1 tree limb and 4 concussions later, I'm still standin' baby!!!
~
Love you all and thanks for your support and well wishes. I have the best blogging friends!
~
XO Suze

i have so much to say and i probably should do other stuff....

we finally get to see your face! you have pretty eyes and the scarring isnt so bad. you are really starting to look quite presentable.
you dont have many wrinkles either, youre doin great!

the haematoma IS God cutting you some slack :) you wouldnt really want a brain injury , now would you?

i took one look at the purple toes and knew straight away that it hurt one HELL of a lot.
i once had one toe all black like that. that was enough.

posting this and coming back to chat more

THIRD!!!

Ha! You don't disappoint. Thanks honey.

Rob and I were just saying this morning that my face is improving every day. We're both excited by the progress, so thanks for noticing. And thanks to for the comment about my eyes. You're so kind. Kyles, what color are my eyes? I'm not going to tell you what I think because I don't want to influence you. I get laughing when I look at these photos because the purplish/black eyeliner on the top lids makes my eye color "POP!" You know I don't wear makeup, so it's fun to see what I'd look like if I did.

Thanks for the not too many wrinkles comment. That helps.

You're absolutely right about the hematoma. No, I wouldn't want a brain injury. This was bad enough.

The toes. I was in the soft cast as every began to swell and turn color over three days and it hurt so much. I know you understand. It's really been hell.

I love you darling. Thanks. It's been so much fun chatting with you this afternoon (for me). XO

OMG Suzanne, you really went down hard! I am SO GLAD that you are recovering. Take it easy for a bit, don't try to do too much.(You are pretty hot!) Just saying! :)

Yoiks! That was painful to look at, but I can definitely see improvement. STAY OFF YOUR FEET!

Kylie, that should have been "too," not "to." Yes, I do know the difference. Are there any other typos?!!!

Otin,

Yes, I went down like a ton of bricks. I think this is what happened. I broke my ankle getting out of the kittens way causing me to fall and hit the edge of the wall. As I recall I was out cold before I hit the floor!

I am trying to take it easy. I have my first X-rays tomorrow and I'm worried I haven't done enough to heal properly. They won't lie. Cross your fingers. I'm going to have to learn to take better care of myself throughout September.

Thanks for the wonderful compliment. I haven't been called "Hot" in years and certainly not while looking like someone stomped on my face and forgot to throw me in the shower. Thanks honey!!! And Otin, what color are my eyes? This is not a trick question. I've always had a hard time determining the color, so I'll ask all of you.

Thanks again my dear for the well wishes and your kindness.

XO ;)

Megs,

I'm trying. I think I've been a good girl today. Now I just have to be a good girl every day! But I'm motivated. And yes, there is improvement. I knew you'd notice. But something very funny is happening. Because of gravity the blood is all heading south. It's moving down my cheeks at the moment and should reach my boobs by next week. Do you think they'll swell too?!

XOXOXOXOXOXOXO

P.S. I stopped by your blog, wrote, then erased. I'll stop by again because the post and comments are terrific. I just turned on some Coldplay!

Oh my dear! I am away from blogging for a bit and this takes place?????

I am rather at a loss for words these days -- so tired out. (It has been an unbearably busy week around Wisteria Cottage . . . or it might have been had I been around the cottage to see -- instead I was gone EVERY DAY! Ugh!)

Anyway . . . I pop around to see you and find that you have the most gorgeous eyes -- such a beautiful shade of green -- that are set off splendidly by those luscious pearl earrings. Nice accessory choice.

As for the rest of the "accessories" . . . ummmmmmm . . . yeah . . . wellllllllll . . . hmmmmmmmmmm . . . gotta say those earrings are stunners. ; D

Stay OFF YOUR ANKLE and know that you are in my prayers, sweet girlfriend. XO!

Debbie in CA : ) said...

Hey! I just read the other comments (I never want to cheat and read before I comment) and I just discovered you are having an eye color contest. Well, I stand my the "green" tag because my eyes are so similar to yours -- they change with the wind and sky and bruising I have just discovered. I was always told I had brown eyes, but through the years they have taken on something not brown but nor quite any other established eye-color either. I decided I would call them golden delicious and let the eyes decide whether they be green, gold, or brown as it suits them. I once bought emerald contacts -- FABULOUS and dramatic! I pitched them as I got tired of everyone asking, "Is that your REAL eye color?" I don't lie so I replied, "No, they are a fashion accessory." The looks that came my way would have been no less shocked if I had just admitted to the seven deadly sins on one coffee break -- so I tossed them and went back to being the mystery eye color woman. I love a good mystery, don't you? And now I am signing off because I have written a novel instead of a comment and somebody else may want a bit of space.

Stay off the feet and on the mark -- we are great bloggers . . . who else would you associate with?

; D Luv you!

Sending you a gigantic hug and I'll call you soon.

Suze stay OFF your feet and use your crutches. At least the bruising under the eyes are somewhat even. Your eye color is the same as me.My passport said hazel but they can be green/brown. My father used to say when i was mad my eyes changed to black.
You certainly out did me in the falling over dept. Take care thinking of you.

Oh Suzanne- how terrible! I am just catching up and this is the first I heard of this!

I've got to go to work now- but I will be back later. Be careful on those crutches now XOX

You have really pretty eyes. The colors in them are amazing!

It looks like the cuts are healing very nicely, and that you won't have much of a scar. The bruises are fading fast and the swelling has gone down.

Amazing, how quickly you heal.

Still, though, you poor girl, you look miserable in the first few.

I'm most worried about your ankle, you really must have done a number on yourself! I can't imagine how you must have fallen to do such grievous injury to yourself!

Has Rob been coming by often to take care of you?

I hope you are totally healed up soon, dearest.

I have to admit that I have come out of back alley brawls looking better than you Suzanne (most of the time anyway).

Yep had a hemotoma too, that was the second time they went in to take bone off my hip for a cervical fusion. I was in the damn hospital longer for that, then I was for the original surgery.

OK the ankle...My ankle is the only thing (except for a couple of knuckles) that I have ever broken in the right side, Mine was a complete tri-partite fracture involving all three bones. My ankle had been stomped while I was doing some necessary clean up with another guy on the floor.

They put in 8 screws and two steel plates and I left the hospital in a FULL leg cast (I got married in that cast--The old lady does not like to talk about that part of the wedding, though it is the only cast I ever think fondly of)

Two weeks after the cast was put on the incisions got infected and the doc put me in a removable robo-boot so I could clean the slice and dice.

I went through Walking Man physical therapy...drank Bourbon and moved the shit out of the ankle while laying down always forcing it past the point of pain. A little bit more each time. (which I think is how it got infected, either that or the coat hanger I would stick down there to scratch the itching.

A week after I got the removable boot on, I went back to work at the DIA (Detroit's big art museum) with the restriction of no climbing ladders which I ignored of course. If you're going to hang paintings you have to climb ladders.

Long story short I have fractured three joints, the ankle, the left elbow, and the left wrist and with each one I did Walking Man physical therapy and now have 100% range of motion and little problem from any of them.

I never used the damn crutches either...they hurt worse than the fracture did. Now I will use a cane but that is because of the spinal fusions (7) I've had not the leg.

We're by the way going to allow you 49.5 minutes unconscious and cede the champeenship to you a much younger champeen. I have retired from that mess anyway.

I read your last "adventures" through your posts and comments.

I'm so glad that you are still here,
with your humor, with your pain, with your heart.
Otin is right, you are Very pretty and hot. You know, woman knows that, so believe me.

I think that your eyes have a beautiful green color during a day... and they change in a beautiful, hot brown color in an evening/night.
As the proverb says - the woman is flighty.

Take good care of yourself!

You're right, you look like hell. But, I didn't notice any wrinkles.
Kylie, always thinking on the positive side, but she is right about the brain injury. At least the swelling is going outward and not inward. If it were going inward, you could be dead.

DEAR ALL,

Eye color. How funny. I never even considered Hazel, but I'm Hazel. THANKS KYLIE!!! I always fluctuate between green and brown. Kylie, I'll email my phone number but don't want you to call. That's expensive from Australia! So when you get the number, just toss it in the trash!!!

Debbie ~ Apparently you have Hazel eyes too. You didn't know that, did you?! Blogging is so useful. Hope you're getting some rest. I'll stop by soon to see how the garden grows and listen to beautiful music. Love you dear. Take care. XOXOXOXO

Otin ~ Yes, sometimes they are.

Bob ~ Knock it off.

Bindi ~ I'm trying to take care of myself. It's hard while taking care of everything else. I really am resting more. Seriously.

Poor Serene. Yikes. I guess she learned a painful lesson. She's a cutie even without teeth! Give her a hug for me. Noah too. Thanks for the call darling. It's always comforting to hear your voice. XOXOXO

Renee!!! Hi honey!!! I know, can you believe it? *Suze bangs head on desk.*

It's so nice you can finally comment. And of course it's nice to know you're always here. I miss you darling. Wish you were still next door and could take care of me! This is a hard one. I love you. Hugs and kisses to all. We'll chat soon. Love you.

Jo ~ You too!? Good for all of us. Hazel. I never knew! I'm trying to be good and rest more, but it's funny because the more I rest the more my foot hurts. What's up with that? Have a great day. Well, evening, right? XOXOXO

Cinnamon,

Ha! Can you believe it? My mishaps are beginning to make me wacky. Thanks for dropping by my dear and thanks too for always making me smile. Have a beautiful day/evening! OX

Karen,

Hi baby. I just down loaded some photos for my next post. I agree, my face is healing quickly. I'm glad I'm taking photos to track the healing process. I'm amazed. Wait till you see the new photos! I'm progressing!!!

The ankle. That's a whole notha' story. Yikes. I'm going to write about it in my new post, so won't bore you twice!!!

About how I fell. This is what I've concluded. Moving out of the kitty's way quickly broke my ankle. I don't remember how it all happened, but when you look at the blood on the wall I had to be where the bookcase and Macy's sofa meet, which means I'd jumped out of the way, broke my ankle doing so which caused me to fall into the wall. I don't remember hitting the wall, I just remember insane pain and the wood floor. I don't remember landing on the floor because I was obviously unconscious before I hit it. And it all happened within seconds.

This is the lesson I learned sweetie. You have kitties, so you probably already know. Don't move when a kitty comes running toward you. Don't move because he/she is more flexible and can quickly navigate the situation. A human being can not!!! Trust me on this one.

Eyes. Thanks darling. What a nice thing to say. My eyes have always baffled me because they're always changing. Even on my license I put green one time, then brown the next!!! Now I know they're Hazel. That explains so much. I Googled "Hazel" and really enjoyed the information. Who knew!!!??? Did you notice how the purplish/blue/black eyeliner makes the green "pop?" That fascinates me.

Well darling, gotta go. I love you and thanks for your kind words and support. You're a gem lady. Hope life is treating you kindly.

Big XO,
Sis ;)

You're killing me. My doctor said "No coat hangers, use the cool setting on your blow dryer." Yup, it works. I've only had a few minor itches and it works.

You're a crazy man. See, I'm a pacifist, so it doesn't make sense I'd end up looking like this. Does it look like I won? Good!

I'm using my crutches as best I can. The first few days were hell because I don't know what hurt worse, my face and foot or the pain caused by the crutches. I realize now that if I use the crutches I'll be completely buff by Thanksgiving. You bet your ass I will!!! My biceps can't help but end up looking pretty! I should also have a six pack by then. You didn't follow instructions, but I'm trying very hard because my fear is I'll be in this damn cast till Christmas.

I can't believe you didn't even use crutches with all that damage. I can't even imagine the pain of all those ankle bones being broken because just this one is pure hell. I know you understand. I'll heal, won't I? I'm confident this will all work out. Will I need PT after this? God, this is such a stupid long journey.

Love you dear. Thanks for making me laugh and keeping up my spirits. This too shall pass. Right?

XOXOXOXOXOX ;)

Ms. K,

You are hilarious!!! Get over here and let me give you a big old hug. Honey, can you believe this crap? I can't. I just reflect on this past year and have to laugh. Kylie said the "Universe is speaking to me." Apparently!!!!!

Okay, what do I do about the scar. Yeah, it's a doozie. It's still healing, but when it's done I have to figure out how to minimize it. Any suggestions?

I think I have the ankle and face covered because I'm craving everything red, plus onions and garlic. I know they're all helping me heal rapidly. Also, my doctor has me on gobs and gobs of calcium and I'm also taking my multivitamin. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Any veggies I should eat, tea, vitamins? Anything, just let me know.

Love you darling and hope all is well on your end of the world. Kisses and hugs all around.
;)

P.S. I adore your mom!!!

Merelyme,

I just wrote and was about to post and the kitten stepped on the ESC button. *Suze rolls eyes in head.*

Okay, so this is what I said in a nutshell. Hi. Bye. No, not really. You cracked me up with the photoshop comment. No I don't photoshop. I have it but haven't had the time to learn to use it. So what, I can make myself look better?!!! Hummmmmmmmm. Interesting. Well, just so you know, what you see is what you get. And yes honey, look closer, I have lots of wrinkles. But they come by way of pure pleasure. Lots of sun bathing, lots of tennis without a hat, lots of laughter. I've earned every one and I'm proud because it shows I lived a decent life. As much as I bitch, I'm happy. You know it's funny because back in the 80's while in college I worked for a law firm in San Fransisco. I was very fit and very, very tan from playing way too much tennis. I heard through the grapevine that one of the attorneys said "She has the kind of tan you just want to lick from head to toe." At the time I was really offended, but almost 30 years later and single I'm wondering where the hell that handsome man is!!! Funny how things change! HA!!!

And yes darling, I'm healing beautifully. For all the crap I've done wrong, I appear to be doing something right. I'm so grateful I captured the healing process in photos because I wouldn't have believed it. I feel really, really lucky. Now my goal is to minimize the scar. Any suggestions?

Love you darling. Hope all is well and the baby is doing beautifully. I'll stop by soon.

Much love,
Me

Baby Shife is so adorable. I can't believe you and Miss Shife created that adorableness. You guys hit the jackpot!!! I love your awesomeness.

You are healing amazingly well! That is so cool!

Your eyes are gorgeous, and it's nice to 'meet' another 'hazel eye' person. I have hazel eyes that will look more like blue or gray depending on the color I'm wearing (and quite possibly my mood...) ;)

When I was a kid I wanted to be a nurse...until I realized my stomach does flip-flops too often when seeing traumatic things like this... :)

I'm SO glad you're OK and healing like a champ! :)

What a nice comment to start the day with. Thank you.

Eyes. Aren't they amazing? I didn't realize I had Hazel eyes until Kylie alerted me. Hummmmmmmmmm. That explains everything!!! Mine are forever changing. Not like yours. Mine fluxuate between green and brown.

I'm healing beautifully. I agree. I wish my ankle would play along!!!! Man, that thing is just nasty. Cross your fingers. I have to go in for a new cast today. I just had a new one put on Monday, but I stepped in a puddle of water Tuesday and my cast won't dry out!!! So I get to see Dave again. He's sexy and gorgeous, so it's not like misery or something! Pure pleasure. I hope I need cast replacement once a week! I'll work on that.
