A Christmas Miracle...

The wee one (on the left) with her
new cousin playing around the pool.
She's already probably
60-70 lbs. and only about 6 months old.
She's going to be a very big dog!!!

There are days you almost can't believe. Her scent still lingers on my fleece jacket as we speak. How did I deserve this day? How? I look to the sky but only see my popcorn ceiling. Life is so beautiful. Honestly, it is. I'm listening to MC's 10,000 Miles as I write this, so please listen if you can to get the full effect.

I was so late to the park. Over 2 hours late. The morning was so insane and as I drove to the park kept saying "I'm sorry, I'm coming." I pulled up and Nash came running to the car. I didn't hesitate. I pulled everything out and fed him at the right rear tire. I felt so guilty. And then I saw a guy on a cell phone walking down the bike path with a dog off leash. I love dogs, so don't worry too much, but for some reason just felt panic for Nash. Nash was completely unaware of danger, so I walked toward the guy and dog. I got to them and the guy said "He's not my dog, he's just tagging along." I asked "What do you mean?" He replied "I'm from Seattle and walking while my father-in-law rides his bike and this dog just tagged along, can you help me?" I said "You're not going to help him?" He replied "I'm not from here. Can you help?" I swear to God my heart just sunk to the pavement. My first thought was how can I possibly do this too? I said "I'll figure something out." I called the dog and he came. Nash ran and the dog ate all his food. I put out dog food I had in the car (returning to PetSmart), but he wouldn't eat it. He only wanted cat food. Good Lord! I just left everything where it was and put the dog in the car. I knew where the fire station was and drove directly there. No one answered the door. I got back in the car and drove to the market to get directions to the police department, and found the fire department truck parked in the lot while they shopped. A lovely officer was at the truck. I ran. I didn't walk. She said "Oh my God he's so beautiful. If I wasn't on a 48 hour shift I'd take him." We called everyone. Vet's, ASPCA, etc., nothing. No luck. I left with a huge hug to comfort me and words of good luck. Also direction to the police department just down the freeway . I thought the police would help because every day at the park I see K9's being trained. I had a gorgeous german shepard puppy and knew they'd love him. That was my hope.

I left the dog in the car and went to feed the ferals. I returned to find that little sweetie just happy as a clam. I remember telling him "we'll figure this out, just help me sweetie." When I opened the door he bolted out. He ran after Nash. I knew at that moment he couldn't come home with me. That broke my heart. I was trying desperately to get him back in the car when a jogger went by. He loved and followed her. She turned, stopped and looked at me. I ran up to greet her and told her "he isn't mine, I'm trying to rescue him." Without hesitation she ran to my car and he followed her. She picked him up and put him in. Yes, there are angels on earth. Off we went to the police department. We didn't make it because I met a police officer and waved her over. The line of cars behind started backing up, but I honestly don't think any minded. It's as if they all knew. So many gave me the thumbs up when it was all over. My beautiful officer said "Oh My GOD, she's so beautiful. I'd take her in a second. I said "Can you?" She said "No, I have two dogs and they'd never agree." I asked "What do I do?" She said "Don't do anything, just take her home, you'll find the answer." I said "I don't think so." She said "Trust me, I know people, you have great Karma, you'll find the answer." I said "Honey, my Karma sucks!!! Just go to my blog, you'll see!!!" She laughed so hard and said I believe in you." And so we parted with a whole hell of a lot of cars trying to get past. But I honestly think everyone knew I was in agony and searching. My last hope was dashed. But I had one hope. It was my first though when I met the wee one. My neighbor. She's a remarkable woman and loves dogs. I knew I couldn't bring the wee one to the house because of the cats, so she was my only hope.

I pulled up to the house and rang the doorbell. Hubby answered. I said "Hi, I know your wife, I need her to help with someone I have in the car." He said "Who." I stepped aside and said "Him." His face just lit up and he yelled for his wife and for Dan. Everyone came running. Literally. No joke. It was as if I had delivered the most precious gift in the world. I opened the car door and he stepped out. He turned out to be a she and hearts melted all over the front lawn. Introductions were made to the other dogs and although not perfect, as one would expect. Dan (the son-in-law) had just lost his beloved German Shepard two weeks prior. I saw his face when he saw her and knew. He said "Please don't take her, I need her, she'll have a beautiful life." I didn't hesitate. She'll have a beautiful life. I believe that with all my heart. She has beautiful big paws and he said, "look at her paws Dad, she's going to be so big and gorgeous". I felt my heart sing. Sometimes life is too perfect. A match made in Heaven, and one I will always be a part of. I love that most. Karma. I think mines looking up! My darling neighbor and I couldn't stop hugging. Sometimes life is just so beautiful. They called this their Christmas Miracle.

I wrote this listening to our dear friend Mary Chapin's song 10,000 Miles and think it should be read listening to that song. I do. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kieyW-FKyQ

With much love,

Me

P.S. Mary C and Mark. You both have Google comment pages. I'm unable to access. I don't know why. I've tried everything. Trust me, I've tried. I love you both, just so you know. We'll chat here, okay?

Did you email me so i can email you back? If so I ahven't seen it.

Oh and I did see the pic of the turkeys in your back yard. Are they bothering you? J/K!!!!

Rob,

Hi baby. It's a remarkable story. I still can't quite believe it. And I didn't stretch the truth, that's exactly as it happened. I have a feeling someone is missing their German Shepard tonight. Why? Because she still spelled of perfume and her nails were so beautifully groomed. I said that to Dan and that's when he said "Please don't take her...I need her." Life is life. I weighted my choices and I knew Dan would never disappoint her. I returned to the house about 10 minutes later to take photos and found a dog filled with joy. She was playing with Maggie and Phoebe out by the pool and happy. Sincerely happy. And all the people were happy. There was a collective joy hanging over that house and when I left I started to cry. I was so happy.

I don't know why this day unfolded as it did, but it did. It is a Chrismas miracle. I honestly believe that. That dog will find joy all the days of her life and I think that's why she found me. I have never seen a family so happy to have a dog. It was meant to be. Truly, a match made in Heaven.

You didn't get the email? Good Lord! Did I forget to click? I'll get on that.

And no, the turkeys aren't bothering me. Leave my turkeys alone!!! Just remember, if you ever grace my property, you aren't allowed to bring a gun. I'm serious.

Love you dear and thanks for being #1! And yes, because of being late to the park, a beautiful German Shepard and beautiful people, Christmas was remarkable this year. This is one I'll never forget.

Oh. I just melted into a puddle of goo when I read this. I so wish I could have taken her! Sounds like she got a wonderful home, though, and you are such an angel for doing that! I must admit, while I was reading the first part, I wondered, "but did she feed the rest of the ferals?" Because the dog had eaten all of Nash's food, and well, you know us fuzzy fanatics...

You made the right choice. She will be so happy with the man you chose.

Aside from that, how was your Christmas? I hope it was as beautiful as you. You are very special and deserve nothing but peace, contentment and happiness.

You have the love of the most precious friends, in the form of four footed angels, and you have a wonderful community of friends who will always be here for you.

I'm so glad I met you here, Suzanne, you are one of a kind.

Dear M,

Hi darling. Thanks. I've never been a big believer in destiny, but I swear to God, the older I get the more I believe. This day was insane and the only conclusion I've come to is it was meant to be. To watch it all unfold was almost surreal. Dan had tears in his eyes when she got out of the car. He fell in love instantly. That's how I knew. I was destined to arrive late at the park and destined to meet her. I believe that with all my heart. I'm so glad you enjoyed this one, but hope there won't be many more like it!!!

Love you dear.

It's so nice to have you back. I love the sound of your voice.

The kitties are are doing beautifully. I've added more because some needed rescuing at the park. I lost so many dear friends there over the past few months. Nearly broke my heart. Life is so interesting, isn't it?

Love you dear. XO

Sausage Mechanic,

Thank you sweetie. It's so nice to be appreciated. And just so you know, I love people who rescue animals. It means the world to me. There are so many great animals in need. I'm sure your three are very grateful you found them. Just as I'm grateful you found me. I honestly believe we were all meant to find one another. As complicated as it is, life is often so simple.

Thank you dear friend. Your words filled my heart. Enjoy the rest of the holidays too.

Karen,

Hi sweetie. Thank you. I always love your words and your spirit. I love that you grace this blog. When I see your face I feel peace. I don't know why. Perhaps because you remind me of my sisters. I like that.

I'm listen to MC's 10,000 Miles. It's so beautiful. I realized I was humming it on the drive to the park today and while at the park. I've listened to it so many times I know it by heart. It's so gentle and comforting. It reminds me of a quiet afternoon with one of my sisters. I love that. I especially love the line "You've been a friend to me." It simply melts my heart. The way MC sings that phrase it is so kind. There are songs I consider perfect. This is one.

My darling dog found the right home. She has a sister, Maggie and a good mom and dad. She brought tears to Dan's eyes and I knew they were destined for one another. I would have adopted her in a second, but she had that kitty issue! And I know now she wasn't supposed to be in our family. She's Dan's baby. I wish I could find the words to explain the joy on that man's face when he saw her for the first time. It was just pure love. I could tell by his words that losing his dog broke his heart and for some reason she came into his life to mend it. Sometimes life is so beautiful. Yesterday was without a doubt, one of the most amazing days of my life. I think the beauty was in watching it unfold.

Love you dear, thanks for welcoming me with open arms. It's been my honor to get to know you.

Leah,

Love indeed. She's surrounded by it. Smothered in it. She's blessed, and so are all of us. As a very religious person, don't you find it interesting how life reveals itself? I don't think I'll ever wash my fleece jacket. Her scent matters. It's the most beautiful memory and I don't want it to go away. I don't. I don't know why things happens, but do believe they happen for a reason. We were meant to meet one another. I was also meant to meet every other person I did yesterday. My life was altered yesterday. For the better.

I love you my dear, dear friend. You know that. I hope you're finding your way with your darling dog. You know my heart hurts for you.

With love,

Hi Suzanne,
I found you via Peter's Blog!
Wow this post is so wonderful!
I can totally relate to your feelings about the dear doggie as I have been in that position a lot over the years and have taken in many ittle abandoned puppies from the street.
I simply cannot walk past them as they look desperately whilst running up to me and wagging their tails I always feel that pain in my heart at the thought that maybe I am now abandoning them by not taking them home or finding homes for them...

I have a post that I wrote in my Blog about a month ago all about 2 beautiful little puppies that were dumped by someone outside my garden inside a cardboard box late one night....

I hope to read more of your Blog soon! and a Very Happy New Year 2009! X

Hunter,

I checked. I send that damn email on the 24th. It wasn't returned so I assume went through. I notice one thing however. The subject was "Suze" not "Suzanne." Your wife probably saw it, thought it was porn and deleted! Seriously! I tried to write again today, but Comcast wouldn't allow me to send it. It's saved so I'll try again tomorrow.

We recently went all Comcast, all the time. Yes, took the big plunge. Comcast also spent a few weeks "improving" their service all over town and changed the look of EVERYTHING as well. Since, it's sucked. So far the only thing that seems to still work in this house is my hand held shower head. Okay, I'll be serious...I'll get the address to you if I have to deliver it in person. Can you imagine that? Me pulling into your driveway, "Hi honey, I'm home."

In my previous email I said don't sell my info to an idiot. I mean that. If I start hearing from idiots I'll know who to come to. Also, hope you, Christie, the kids and animals has a wonderful Christmas.

Love you darlin', well chat as soon as I send that damn thing.

Happy New Year to you too, and thanks for your kind words. Thanks too for rescuing animals. I often wonder how people walk past and do nothing. I'm so grateful I'm not that sort of person. You sound like me! I'm going to read your blog, especially the post from a few months ago. I'll get back to you.

I'm so happy you're here. Hope you stick around because a friend of Peter's is a friend of mine.

Yes, I had to say it right here because we all know your Google page won't post my comments. What? I'm doing the best I can.

I'll stop by to see how the house looks! I don't wear perfume so have no idea how you'll know I was there. Okay, this is how. I'll leave a mint under your pillow!

Do you have any coffee? Leah isn't up yet. She usually does the honors. Oh, she also makes oatmeal. Can you cook for one?!

Hi there Suzanne (and Karen and Gig et al)
A few days ago I took my blog down because I had begun getting some pesky comments from strangers in blogland (no one I met here of course!) ...it kind of freaked me out and I decided to take my site down.
Once I figure out my next move I'll let you know because I really enjoyed having the blog- but I don't want to have to deal with the loss of privacy, however odd that might seem given that the blog is public, after all. I guess I just need to figure out what I am comfortable with.
In the meantime, a very Happy New Year to the inhabitants of the Rose Cottage studio and all who visit here!

Karen ^..^ said...

@Farmgirl::
No worries, I know how that feels, and I am not in the public eye. The blogs I have now are my 4th try in a year. I started a blog in October of 2007. I deleted 3 of them, due to some really nasty invasions of my privacy. I finally decided to enable comment moderation, and did not allow any nasty comments on my blog, nor any probing and nosy questions. Anyone caught doing anything nasty is BLOCKED. It has been a tough year, but I think I am finally seeing that just because your blog is open to the public (a gift; a privilege) doesn't mean people are allowed to abuse that. Ever. It was thrown in my face in abundance that "it is not stalking, it is a public blog!!!" Well, yes it is stalking, when you use what you read to hurt someone. And you subscribe to the feed. And lurk it every day without commenting. Eew. I'm so sorry you had this negative experience, because like our darling Suzanne, most of us folks are pretty nice, and really decent, privacy respecting people. Truly. Screw the trolls! Moderate 'em! You can also turn off your feed, in your blog, that way no one can subscribe. You can invite only certain people to read, and comment, and no one else will be able to see that you even have a blog.

I hope you put another one up. You write beautifully, and your blog, photos and fuzzies gave me such a sense of peace. It was a real treat getting to know you, I love your music, your sense of fun which came through in your music, and your mindset which is so admirable. You are a great lady, and even if you don't return, it was a pleasure "meeting" you. Thank you for that opportunity.

HAPPY NEW YEAR ONE AND ALL!!!!

Sorry it's taken so long to get here, but I've been really, really sick. Still am, but starting to feel better. (For details go to the Wild Onion comment page (go there anyway, the place in a hoot).)

I will attempt to respond to ALL comments over the next day or two. However, if I fail, please know that I LOVE EACH AND EVERY ONE AND APPRECIATE THE FACT YOU TOOK THE TIME TO VISIT AND WRITE!!!!

Now, for some housekeeping. Steps up to mic and flicks it with middle finger. Most of you know Farmgirl is Mary Chapin Carpenter (aka Mc2 or MC). Most of you visit her beautiful new blog. Now most of you know she has removed her beautiful new blog. Get your scrawny little asses over here, all of you. You too MC. This is the first annual meeting of The Think Outside The Box Gang:
What have we all read, probably more than once?
What is my pet peeve?
What have we discussed here many time?
What is the most poorly worded sentence on Blogger (NO NOT THIS ONE!!!)?

Got it now? Of course: "Sorry, looks like you haven't been invited." HOW RUDE! Mary, that's your answer (God, do I have to think for all of you? I can barely think for just me! And I'm sick to boot! Jezzzzzzzzzzzz.). Mary, just go completely private. You can keep your beautiful blog and invite all your beautiful friends and family! Yes, the solution is that simple. Now, let me just warn you, if you don't invite many of your friends on this blog you're going to have to fend for yourself here!!! I have a disclaimer that reads "I am not responsible for the contents of this comment page." And while your at it, can you do something about that Google problem I'm having? I'd love to comment on your new "PRIVATE" blog. Oh, and I better be invited young lady because I thought of it!

Okay...next (I'm now responding to comments in the order in which they were received.)

Leah ~ Hi honey. Thanks. Thanks for the coffee too. Yes, I do wish I lived closer. I will within the next 5 years. Trust me. And you know what's so funny, you can't get to the Adirondacks without passing Ulster, Dutchess or Columbia County!!! Don't you just love that? Even if I live in CT, it's just a hop skip and a jump for me to get to Lake George. And if I'm in MA, even closer! Isn't life grand?! I love you very much my dear. Thanks for your support and love over in Aussie Land too. HUGE HUG!

The Brit ~ Hello my dear and welcome back. You know I was talking to someone the other day about people who abandon and/or abuse animals. The question posed to me was "Why do you think they do it?" I had to honestly respond "I don't know." I can't wrap my brain around that sort of nonsense. Instead, I try to focus on the millions upon millions of people around the world who work tirelessly to save and rescue animals. It's an amazing collection of people who care deeply. Just look at us! We're a part of it. I'm very honored and humbled to help animals. They've given me far more than I've given them. Perhaps that's the lesson.

I have dear blogging friends who are animals lovers - you should meet them. I'll put you in touch as soon as I'm over this illness and can really blog again. Until then, keep doing what you do and friends like me will admire you forever! Happy New Year Sweetie!
XO Suze

Karen ~ You made me laugh. My mom calls me Kiddo. Always has. I love it!!!

MC's a sweetie and her blog is so precious. It'll be back, I'm confident. Let's hope we aren't sitting outside, knocking on the door because the sign reads "Sorry, looks like you haven't been invited!!!" I don't think she'd do that to us. Okay, I'm on my way to Virginia to sit on her English bench in protest with a sign that reads "Do you Google?" What? Of course I'm laughing. And no, I can't do it because I have ferals to feed in the morning. We need a single woman with absolutely NO responsibilities, or Bob. Okay, now I'm in stitches.

Love you sweetie. HAPPY NEW YEAR! Honey, have you met Gig? You both cut hair. Gig's also a teacher, but most of her time is spent watching students awarded (!) in school suspension. I think she takes that gig as a sub just so she can catch up on her trash novels!!! You know who would be really good at that? Leah, she could knit all day. Wow, I've got to alert her to the full potential of subbing. She'd finally be paid a reasonable salary for knitting. Job opportunities are all around us!

XO

Megan, Megan, Megan, ~ I try so hard to do good. I posted but then realized it didn't have a photo or link, then got really, really sick. So did anyone read that damn thing? I hope to post it soon. I'm still sick, so struggling a bit, but will pull my head out of the ice bucket in a few days. Wish me luck!

XOXOXOXOXXO!

RC ~ My darling long lost sister. You back girl??? Did you read the post? Was there enough time before the PPT yanked that red carpet right out from under your red dress? That PPT (for those who don't know...Pretty Pink Trike over at the Wild Onion) is pretty powerful once she gets some speed on her!

Karma. Don't even start with me. Why does mine suck so. Our darling friend Mr. Shife once said to me "Your Karma sucks. What did you do in a past life?" I don't know!!! SOS!

Email away my dear friend. I'll find you as I'm swimming through the rest. And yes, that is a great story. That is one lucky little dog.

Love you darling. I'll visit as soon as possible. Hope all is well.

HUGE HUG AND KISS!

Okay, one more then I gotta go...

You called me a bit ago. I wasn't in. I called you back a few minutes ago, you weren't in. We're perfect for one another. I'll try to call you later this evening if I can find the time. You know how crazy my evenings are. If we don't get to chat tonight, let's try tomorrow.

Love you dear and hope you're happy and healthy Friday, January 2nd. I'm assuming of course you and hub started the new "Plan." How many veggies you servin' tonight Missy?!!! I have to send you some recipies. I just invented them yesterday: Broccoli Lasagna and Zucchini Lasagna. They are both so GOOD!!! One thing about baking with broccoli is it becomes so mild and sweet. It's the perfect veggie to use in casseroles, etc. You'll see. Well baby, gotta boogie. Oh, make sure you check out Leah's blog. Page down a bit and read about her hopes for a new baby. Is that awesome, or what? We're going to be aunts and uncles!!! Well, only if the picture in the Biology text book is true, the sperm can pull itself away from football long enough to penetrate an egg. ;)

Love you darlin'! XOXOXOXOXO

hey suzie,
im replying to your comment at my place. i wasnt offended by your comment about taff being tied up. what i wanted to say but thought was a bit inappropriate was this:

i love the dog, not in that adoring way like he's my child but in an affectionate "would you keep out of my way you dumb dog" kind of way. my hubby knows i love him and if he gets out hubby delights in telling me he's not coming back. he will abuse the dog to upset me so rather than have that happen i think its safer for him to be tied up. i dont like it but it has to be.
he's a good dog and always comes to the chain, almost as if he knows i do it for him

must run

Kylie,

I love you. I know you endure a whole hell of a lot. I love that you love your dog and just so you know, nothing you EVERY say to me is inappropriate. NEVER. DO YOU HEAR ME YOUNG LADY!!!??? Kylie, I love you to pieces. I look up to you. I admire you. So no, nothing you ever say isn't welcomed with open arms. For some reason I have you and Leah on a pedestal and have yet to figure out how to kick it out from under you! What? It's true.

It's funny, I don't live your life, but somehow understand. Probably in the same way I understand the life of a feral, or a homeless person. I see so far beyond what other do and why? I don't know. It causes me great pain and I often wish I could just be a normal person, but I'm not. You never have to explain anything to me. I understand. I love you so much.

Random Chick is asking a series of 5 questions on her blog. You might want to check it out. I think she's going to try to write freelance and she's asking for our help. I think we're the perfect crowd to suck information from! Go and have some fun! And then come back to the Cafe and we'll eat pink cupcakes with tea or coffee, or something more interesting if Bob's around.

Don't ever worry about me judging you darling. I wouldn't. I love you too much to do so. You are a true life long friend and I cherish you. Ahhhhhhhhh, what would Father de Bricassart say to Meggie in a moment like this?

XO

Hi Suzanne,
Thank you for your wonderful reply!
You always write such wonderful uplifting and positive words! You're a true inspiration!

Guess what? Yesterday I "found" another little puppy on a quiet little road near my home (well all the roads are quiet here where I live) she was walking alone and ran up to me when I saw her, she's a very hapy little girl and is around 6 weeks old and very loving. She's a little black shiny-coated baby with huge brown eyes and I can already see that I am keeping her - she has already won my heart! hehe
Ahh to hell with the expense of dog food! My babies are worth every single penny!!
Have a fab weekend!
Hugs! X

Hello Suzanne,
Just dropped in to say I heard from our sweet Bindi. She's safe and has moved into her own place. Little Noah is due soon. I should be able to visit soon. She's so grateful for all her angels that came to her rescue.

Mc2 ~ you are missed. I'm listening to 10,000 Miles as I write this. I hope you find your way and all of us again. None of us would ever hurt you. I know you know that.

The Brit,

Good for you honey! I adore people who love and rescue animals. That's one lucky little black puppy!!! Keep me informed. I love stories about life and love. We're life long friends, I can tell. When I come to England we'll meet. Trust me. Oh, and I don't think we'll have to drag Peter to the pub, he'll be waiting!!!

Lots of love and and thanks for all you do for animals.

Drags pedestal out for Gig too. I deserve a free f*&#*&% haircut for this one because these things are heavy!!! Now get some rest.

Cinnamon,

Oh you bet your ass we're a scream!!! Now you're one of us, so enjoy the hell out of yourself!!! Say what you want. Think what you want. Have fun. When you're sad, be sad. When you're glad, be glad. We're always here for one another. That's the beauty of this place. Our very famous friend, Mary Chapin Carpenter has a song, 10,000 Miles and a line "You've been a friend to me," and every time I heard it I nearly weep because it's true and sung with such depth of emotion. We're all friends here. I can't imagine we'd ever abandon one another. Welcome.

With love,
Me

Shara, Shara, Shara,

Hi baby. Yes I say that through smiles and tears. I've missed you. Thank you for everything you did. Everything. You made such a difference. I could never have done what you did, but to hear Bindi tell me she ended up meeting the very woman in court Rob and I tried to put her in touch with initially nearly broke my heart. However, everything works out for a reason. She needed you, Texas, etc. You healed her heart and her soul, and I think she wouldn't have found that place without you. I believe that with all my heart. She's where she is now because of you. I'm so grateful. You have no idea. Everything's going to be okay. Isn't blogging beautiful. It brought us all together for a reason. I wouldn't change a thing. Nothing.

I await Noah.

Love you my dear, dear friend. Thank you.

XO
